FAQ for New Transfers

Why is there an Orientation hold on my account?

You will have a hold on your account which prevents you from registering for classes until your proposed courses are approved by a counselor under the E-Advising Tab. Then, you will be allowed to register for your courses using TritonLink.

What's a typical class schedule for a UCSD student?

In general, students take 3-4 courses (12-16 units) per quarter. Most students have classes every day of the week, often with breaks in between. Unfortunately evening offerings are limited, so please expect your courses to be held in the day. It is important to have a flexible schedule to allow for the best selection of course offerings.

Can I change my WebReg appointment time?

WebReg times for enrolling in courses are randomly assigned to all new students on campus during the dates designated by the Registrar's office. This is your START time for enrolling. You can enroll after this time, however we encourage enrolling as close to your start time as possible to allow for best selection of courses. Classes are available on a first come, first served basis, so waiting for a long time can mean other students get into the classes you might have wanted. You can access Tritionlink from any computer that has internet access.

How do I find out if my transcripts have been received?

The status of trancripts received may be viewed on MyApplication. Click on "FOR UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS" and follow directions.

If your transcripts are NOT noted there as received, contact your previous educational institution. After 2 weeks once your institution has confirmed transcripts were sent, check MyApplicatoin again. If not there, contact the UCSD Admissions Processing office by use of the email link at the bottom of the screen "Contact us" or call (858)534-4208. Please do not call before then, it only delays the process.

How will I know which classes to take for my major? How do I contact my department?

As an incoming transfer student, you will find information about your major in the Newstudent Gateway as you proceed through the academic information. However, you should also consult the UCSD General Catalog . The Assist website may also help you see how your department will use your community college coursework. Your degree audit which you will see on Tritonlink once all transcripts are evaluated may give you a preliminary idea of your major requirements and how you transfer work will be used. Any questions regarding transfer coursework and your major should be addressed with your major department.

I'm afraid that courses will be full after I've finished e-advising. Is this true?

Departments release seats in highly needed classes on the first day of transfer enrollment. So what looks full before your WebReg date, may not be. If you notice that classes for your major are full, you should add yourself to the waitlist and then contact your department directly to see how they they monitor their waitlist. Please be aware that students are allowed to enroll and or waitlist in a maximum of 19.5 units before classes begin. Avoid waitlisting if you can and see if there is some other course that is open.
