Academic Advising Procedures and Services
Screening and Quick Answers
The intake
advisor screens student questions and phone calls and answers general and procedural questions.
Appointments
To set up a half-hour appointment, call 858-534-9864 or stop by the front desk on the 3rd Floor of the ERC Administration Building.
Help Desk or Walk-In Advising
A first-come, first-served opportunity for students to visit with an academic counselor to answer your quick, 10-15 minute questions. Help Desk is every weekday afternoon from 1:30-3:30 p.m.(these hours are subject to change).
On-Line Virtual Advising Center
Students can enter the password-protected Virtual Advising Center to post a question for a counselor, view important links to ERC resources, consult Academic Advising Frequently Asked Questions, and find out the latest news in Advising. Go to the Virtual Advising Center at: http://vac.ucsd.edu
Academic Petitions
Students must petition to apply unapproved courses to general education requirements; to apply selected courses to the ERC Special Minor; or to request exceptions to college or University regulations.
Degree Audit and Graduation Check
This is the process by which academic records are evaluated for graduation, and during which information is coordinated among academic departments, programs, and the Registrar. Advising counsels students on how to fulfill requirements. Students can access their degree audit through Tritonlink.
Programs and Workshops
Examples include orientation and enrollment programs for new freshman and transfer students, registration workshops, and workshops for students in academic difficulty.
Publications
Examples include the ERC Student Handbook, templates on how to finish in four years for all majors within the University, and handouts on general education requirements and on various programs within the college and University.
