The Provost of Thurgood Marshall College administers The Rebecca E. Lytle Memorial Scholarship Fund for the benefit of undergraduate scholarships at the University of California, San Diego, with a preference for first-year students enrolled at Thurgood Marshall College. The Scholarship is named in honor of a faculty spouse whose life epitomized high academic achievement, dedication to family, and community service. Typical recipients are Thurgood Marshall College entering students who are chosen on the basis of academic achievement, the first in their family to attend college, financial need, and a significant record of community service.Students may receive up to $2,500.

Each year Thurgood Marshall College organizes a concert to benefit The Rebecca E. Lytle Memorial Scholarship. The music you hear is a selection from the 1997 Scholarship concert.

Provost LytleTHE PROVOST PLAYS ON --

Music Professor Emeritus and Thurgood Marshall College former Provost, Cecil Lytle was featured in the May 7th 1998 issue of Newsweek Magazine. The photo shows Provost Lytle performing and speaking with local students about the music of compoers Scott Joplin and Frederic Chopin. Professor Lytle is a world renown pianist who is equally at home with classical and jazz music. Students on and off campus have enjoyed his many appearances and recordings.

Students of Thurgood Marshall College participating in the TMC Honors Seminar and the Public Service Program were regularly invited to his home for dinner and small concert soirees.
